Meet Karen!!
Tell us 3 things about you, the first 3 things that come to mind
I was a young parent
I am proud of my mixed ancestry
Having fun is one of my biggest priorities
How did you first become involved with YPSN?
I first became involved as a participant. I heard about a work-out group at the YMCA that offered bus tickets, snacks, and childcare. What I found was a group of women that invited me in, and supported me without judgement. It took me a while to access other groups and programs, but when I did I felt like a valued member of community.
What is your role now?
I am a trained First Nations Family Support worker, and the newest member of the YPSN team!
What is your favourite thing about YPSN?
Inclusiveness. I have always felt welcomed and supported, but it hasn’t just been me who has felt this. The staff have extended their expertise and services to many members of my community without judgement and with genuine concern for the comfort and boundaries of the individual.
